What is Garba/Raas?

Navratri a celebration of nine nights of Goddes Durga – the longest dance festival in the world. The traditional folk dance performed during Navratri is Raas – Garba. This is also known as “Garba Deep”. Garba or Garbha is in Sanskrit, which means womb and Deep means little earthen lamp. It was traditionally performed around a big Garbha Deep, representing life just as fetus in the mother’s womb. This dance form worships the divinity and power of Goddess Durga or Amba. The merger of Garba and Raas (traditional dance with two sticks known as Dandiyas) has formed the high-energetic dance that is performed today all over the world with great zeal. Anyone can participate and experience the glory of it.
